In the early 1920’s Hugh Comstock “a builder of dreams” was inspired by the illustrations of Arthur Rackham and built a fairytale cottage for his doll maker wife who successfully made and sold rag and felt dolls, called “Otsy-Totsys.” She asked Hugh to build her a cottage to use as a showroom. He was not originally an architect or builder by trade but but he loved to draw and tinker. All this changed though and he went on to build a small village of fairytale cottages in the sea side village of Carmel, CA
